2010 Gov Race News: CA, KS, OK, TN, NM

CA:

Former eBay Inc. chief executive Meg Whitman plans to run for governor of California, a person with knowledge of her political aspirations said Monday.

The 52-year-old Republican plans to run in 2010 for the seat Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is leaving but is not ready to make a formal announcement, said the person, who was not authorized to talk publicly and spoke Monday on condition of anonymity.

TN

Bill Frist announced he is not running for Governor of TN and it quickly lead to an announcement by Congressman Wamp as did Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons 

KS

LT Gov Mark Parkinson (D) said last week that he wouldn’t run for governor leaving Dems with thin bench.

 

OK 

Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins has announced her intention to run for governor in a letter saying too many Oklahomans are impoverished and college is too expensive.  Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson (D) also has said he intends to run for governor in 2010. 

Other names that have surfaced as possible candidates for governor include State Treasurer Scott Meacham, a Democrat, and Republican U.S. Reps. Tom Cole and Mary Fallin.

Fmr Congresswoman Heather Wilson has announced she may run for Gov in 2010.
