Larry Diedrich is in the hunt for 2010? Naaahh….

Angie over at Dakota Women is talking about the field for 2010, and dropped a name that I hadn’t even heard was approaching the radar:

So I guess that only leaves Lee Schoenbeck, Dennis Daugaard, Dave Knudson, (I’ve heard rumors of) Larry Dietrich, and probably 847 people I’m forgetting who have talked about tossing their hat into the Republican Governor’s race.

Read that here. Larry Diedrich’s name was possibly being bandied about for the GOP Nomination for Governor in 2010?

I keep my ear extremely close to the ground on this stuff, and this wasn’t one I’d heard. Since he last ran for office, Larry’s personal situation has changed a bit, not to mention the fact he’d be coming off of three losses in a row.  Unless someone cares to fill me on on where they heard this, and from what circles they originate, I’m a bit of a doubting thomas. Its improbable, but not impossible.

Otherwise, those Republicans who I think we can safely say are in the hunt are Lt. Governor Daugaard who has been running for some time, Brookings Mayor Scott Munsterman who has formed an exploratory effort. and Dave Knudson who is rumored to be speaking with media companies. Lee Schoenbeck (who has been polling strongly as informal benchmarks test the field) is a likely contender. Ken Knuppe had material printed up and distributed announcing his bid for governor, but has otherwise been quiet about it.

And there are the others out there who are rumored to have an interest in the contest, such as Chris Nelson and Gary Hanson, but niether have they been directly asked, nor pointed out their intent to run.

So, does anyone have a credible source on Larry considering the race? And are there any other serious GOP candidates who I’m overlooking?
