The AP Tries to Define All Criticism of Obama as Racist
How the mainstream media is pursuing an Orwellian goal
Jesse Washington, an Associated Press “journalist,” penned a
article titled, “Ugly post-election racism surfaces.” The article
appeared in the Nation & World section of my local paper, “The
Wisconsin State Journal,” on November 16, 2008. As an AP article,
I’m sure it also appeared in many other newspapers throughout the
nation.
In the article, Washington cites several clear cut incidences of
post-election racism, such as cross burning and hanging black
figures from nooses. He also cites incidences of vandalism and
stupid/crude behavior, such as destroying lawn signs and expressing
a wish for the assassination of Barack Obama. Washington labels
these too as examples of racism. Finally, Washington ends by
quoting Grant Griffin, a 46 year old white man from Georgia (note
the southern state). Griffin states the following:
“I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades
and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change .
. . If you had real change it would involve all the members of
(Obama’s) church being deported.”
Washington, of course, lumps Grant Griffin’s statement in with
cross burning and lynching black effigies. To “journalist”
Washington, it’s all racism.
Welcome to the Age of Obama (to borrow Gwen Ifill’s phrase),
where even legitimate criticism of Obama will be labeled as racist.
In the Age of Obama, racism is the newspeak for legitimate
criticism. If you think the Obama campaign was egregious in
wielding the race card, you ain’t seen nothing yet. The Obama
administration, aided by big media (like the Associated Press),
will be doing a full court press to label all criticism as nothing
more than the vile rants of a bunch of racists. Washington’s
article is just the first salvo.
In his article, Washington mixed obvious racist acts with not so
obvious ones like vandalism. When some idiot destroys a lawn sign,
it’s not necessarily an attack on Obama’s race. Where, after all,
was AP reporter Washington’s article on ageism and male chauvinism
when McCain-Palin signs were destroyed? Why weren’t those acts of
vandalism interpreted as an attack on McCain’s age or an attack on
Palin’s gender?
Then, there’s Grant Griffin’s statement. It, in my opinion, does
not contain any racism. He believes, as many do, that the nation’s
decline (he probably meant moral decline) directly led to the
election of Obama. Grant Griffin further believes, as do many, that
Obama’s former church is anti-American. Often times, patriotic
Americans invite America-haters to either “love it or leave it,”
which is exactly what Grant Griffin did. That’s not racist.
Jesse Washington, Associated Press reporter, is a disgrace to
journalism. His piece is the equivalent of newspeak. Take all forms
of legitimate criticism and redefine it as racism. Plant this idea
continuously in the minds of the public and people will pause
before they utter a disparaging word against Obama. More likely
they will learn to refrain for fear of being labeled a racist.
